5 February 2020: Congratulations are in order to the cryo-EM community for reaching a significant new milestone: more than 10,000 maps representing a wide variety of biological assemblies are now available in the EM Data Bank archive.
This achievement comes eighteen years since EMDB's beginning in 2002, and just nine years since we celebrated EMDB reaching 1000 entries. Reaching this milestone reflects the continued rapid growth of cryoEM reconstruction methods and their increasingly wide application in structural biology research. A record 2436 maps were released in 2019, including 1199 with reported resolution at or better than 4.0 Å.
In comparison, it took twenty-nine years for the Protein Data Bank, founded in 1971, to reach 10,000 entries.
